Lesson 1 - The Gospel

Romans 1:16-17

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.”

the good news, (Strong’s Greek 2295) often capitalized : the message concerning Christ, the kingdom of God, and salvation (Merriam Webster)

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:1

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

FREEDOM IN CHRIST: A BIBLE STUDY

Lesson 2 - How Am I Saved From My Sins?

1 John 3:4

Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.

Romans 7:7

What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”

Genesis 2:17

but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Romans 5:12-14

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned— To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:18

Whoever believes in Him is not condemned.

Romans 8:1

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 10:

13-15 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!

You've completed lesson 2! Lesson 3 is next.

Lesson 3 - Faith

Hebrews 11:6

without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

John 6:29

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

Romans 1:16-17

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Jeremiah 29:13

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Matthew 6: 25-34

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

You've completed lesson 3! Lesson 4 is next.

Lesson 4 - What Should I Believe?

Genesis 12:2-3

I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

Genesis 15:1

After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield,  your very great reward. ”

Genesis 17:6-7

I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

Genesis 15:6

Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Romans 4:16-17

Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.

You've completed lesson 4! Lesson 5 is next.

Lesson 5 - What is Righteousness?

Genesis 15:6

Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Romans 4:3, 18-25

For what does the scripture say? Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. 18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” t 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22 This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” 23 The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

Romans 5:1-2

Therefore, since we have been justified (made righteous) through faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

James 2:18-19, 21-24

But someone will say, “you have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without your deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder… Was not our Father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled hat says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. You see a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.

Hebrews 11:17,19

By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice… Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead…

You've completed lesson 5! Lesson 6 is next.

Lesson 6 - What Is Righteousness By Faith?

Romans 1:17

For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written, “the righteous shall live by faith.”

Romans 5:1

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Justified means to be declared right or righteous.)

You've completed lesson 6! Lesson 7 is next.

Romans 10:9-10

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth you profess your faith and are saved.

Romans 10:13-15,17

for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

2 Corinthians 5:21

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of  God.

Romans 8:1-4

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Lesson 7 - Justification

Romans 3:23-24

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;

Romans 5:1

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Colossians 2:13-14

When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

1 John 3:4

Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact sin is lawlessness.

Romans 4:15

for the Law brings about wrath, but where there is no law, there also is no violation.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

1 John 2:1-2

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If not, you can do it right now. Please say, “Jesus, please forgive me of my sins.” If you said that and meant it, you are JUSTIFIED, and you just became RIGHTEOUS.

You've completed lesson 7! Lesson 8 is next.

Lesson 8 - Sanctification

1 John 2:1-3

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.

Romans 6:1-15

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?

Therefore, we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.

Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!

Romans 12:1-2

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

1 John 3:4-6

Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him.

John 14:15

If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Do you read your Bible?

Let me share a simple and really enjoyable way to begin to read your Bible.

1. Read Genesis chapter 1 – chapter 2:1-3 to understand God’s acts in creating our world.

2. Then jump over to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to read about Jesus’ acts as he walked our planet.

3. Read Acts to see how Christianity was formed.

4. Romans will reassure your faith. 5. Read Ephesians, Philippians, Galatians.

If you slowly, prayerfully and consistently read all of this, in little time you’ll be well on your way to reading without any help.

Lesson 6 - A Church of Hope

Hebrews 10:24-25

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the day approaching.”

Please allow me to tell you a little bit about the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The Seventh-day Adventist church teaches the Bible as the sole authority of scripture.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church believes that Jesus died and rose again so that you and I can have eternal life.

The SDA Church teaches that our hope is only in the return of Jesus Christ.

The Church teaches that when Jesus comes back He will right all wrongs and we will indeed live happily ever after.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in obeying all ten of God’s commandments as an act of love to God and our fellow human brothers and sisters. The church is over 20 million in membership, and believes in community outreach, education, and healthy living.

I promise you will love this church😊

Lesson 7 - A Day of Hope

Genesis 2:2-3

“By the Seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”

Exodus 20:9-11

“Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath Day by keeping it holy.”

Mark 2:27

“Then he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.”

Lesson 8 - Hope After the Grave

John 11:11-14

“ ‘Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him out of SLEEP.’ The disciples then said to Him, ‘Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.’ Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of literal sleep. So Jesus then said to them plainly, ‘Lazarus is dead’.”

1 Corinthians 15:51-55

“Behold, I show you a mystery; WE WILL NOT ALL SLEEP, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY? OH DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? OH DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-16,18

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep,, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
