Patience

Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”

Hmmm, wait for the Lord BUT be strong and take heart while you’re doing it. I am struck by this language. It suggest to me that waiting on God to do something is not a passive event. It requires me (us) to prepare ourselves to withstand difficulty while maintaining trust in the outcome. I think the writer of this particular psalm knew that waiting on God isn’t always easy. I think the writer also knew that the wait was worth it. Do you see the emphasis on waiting on the Lord? It’s mentioned twice. It cushions the need for strength and trust during the process. It is a reminder that no matter how strong I have to be in the face of difficulties or how challenging it may be to trust Him, He is worth it! Reflect on your life. How many times has God asked you to wait on Him. Was it worth it? Now compare that to the eternity that He promises. No sorrow, no pain, no worry. He’s worth the wait!
